The offseason marches on, and once again it is time to check in on the team via podcast. Last month’s appearance by the guys over at Hawk Jock was fun enough to record that I decided to bring them back for this month’s episode. We pretty much picked up right where we left off, discussing David Beaty past, present and future, and then moving into

Note as you are listening to this that we recorded this not too long after the other episode, meaning that we didn’t yet know that Jeff Long was hired to be the new AD (starting today, in fact). This was also before the departures of Taylor Martin and others from the team. So while the information is a bit outdated, the conversation is still interesting and the information is overall pretty solid.

Also, the third season is fast approaching. We are recording the season premiere episode in the next couple weeks, which will include preview for the football season, some basketball updates, and more. If there is anything you think we need to make sure to include, please let us know.

Topics discussed:

-Comparing Sheahon Zenger to Historical Leaders: Which parallel is best?

-Is this Beaty’s last year on the sidelines? And if not, what happened to save his job?

-Was Beaty the right KIND of hire to make back in 2015?

-Who would have been the right guy to hire back in 2015?

-How important is having the right quarterback?

-Why has KU been so bad at recruiting, identifying and then improving quarterback play in the years since Reesing?

-Can searching for a transfer QB lead to long term success, or do we need to develop a young guy?

-What positive developments have you seen over the summer?

-Any individual players that you expect to break out next year?

We want your input on the podcast. If you have something you would like to talk about on the podcast, or any suggestions for people that we should try to talk to, let us know by emailing us at or on twitter @rockchalktalk.
