Week 12 Predictions

Our writing panel gives their predictions for the game this weekend, and then we look around at some of the more interesting games of the week.

John Rieger-USA TODAY Sports

So the break from the gauntlet went well, with a win over the Cyclones now in the pocket. Does anyone in their right mind think that the Jayhawks can carry that confidence over against TCU?

All games on Saturday and times given in Jayhawk Standard Time

#4 TCU (8-1, 5-1 Big 12) @ Kansas (3-6, 1-5 Big 12) 2:00pm  TV: Fox Sports 1

penhawk: TCU has a fantastic offense, and a very good defense. We have an ok defense, and bad (albeit inducing) offense. This isn't hard to figure out. TCU may be in for a bit of a swoon coming off their big win last week, but it won't be enough to drag them down to Kansas' level. I think the Jayhawks will hang in for a while, then get overwhelmed. TCU 45 - Kansas 20

dnoll5: To be honest, I think KU was focusing (for a significant amount of time-certainly more than the one week lead up) all of their attention on the Iowa State game last week in the hopes that they’d get a conference win to hang their hat on and a ninth place finish instead of rock bottom.  Well, that happened.  Unfortunately now, starting with TCU, reality returns. TCU 56, Kansas 17.

Ivan Portillo: Who was surprised by last week? Not this guy. My prediction for that game was just to throw you guys off. TCU? No problem for the high-riding Jayhawks. Look for a five touchdown game by Cummings, along with a four turnover day for the defense. The team goes on to win every game for the rest of the season. The NCAA realizes how wrong they were about the Jayhawks and awards them the national championship. Final score? KU, 42. TCU, 10.

(Just kidding. Reverse the teams and that’s my prediction).

Jim Hammen: (In Manager Lou Brown’s voice from Major League 2):  "All right guys, listen up.  We won a game last week.  We win one on Saturday, that’s two in a row.  We win one the Saturday after that, that’s called a winning streak.  It has happened before.  SO LET’S SEE SOME HUSTLE, LET’S JACK IT UP A LITTLE!   I got a feeling things are about to turn around for us."

And then the ex-about-to-become-current-again owner, that old bag Rachel Phelps, strolls into the clubhouse and everything goes to crap.  The part of Rachel Phelps will be played by TCU this weekend, and I think the winning streak comes to an end.  TCU 45, KU 14.

misterbrain: Can we just go home and call it a day early?  Pretty much the only reason to watch/attend toss game is because it is Senior Day.  Heeney goes off in his last home game, but it isn't enough. TCU 38, KU 17

#8 Ohio State (8-1, 5-0 Big Ten) @ #25 Minnesota (7-2, 4-1 Big Ten)  11:00am  TV: ABC

Ohio State has all the expectations in this one and with those come pressure.  Minnesota has quietly amassed a good record, beating the teams that they should beat.  I know that I should pick Ohio State, but I keep getting this nagging feeling that Minnesota pulls this one out. Minnesota 31, Ohio State 28.

#19 Clemson (7-2, 6-1 ACC) @ #22 Georgia Tech (8-2, 5-2 ACC) 11:00am  TV: ESPN

Clemson has the defense, Georgia Tech has the offense. Home field isn't enough though. Clemson 24, Georgia Tech 17.

#1 Mississippi State (9-0, 5-0 SEC) @ #5 Alabama (8-1, 5-1 SEC) 2:30pm  TV: CBS

#1 is in trouble here. I've not really believed too much in Mississippi State all year, and Alabama is deadly at home. Should be a good game, but Alabama wins. Alabama 24, Mississippi State 20

Oklahoma (6-3, 3-3 Big 12) @ Texas Tech (3-6, 1-5 Big 12)  2:30pm  TV: ESPN

Oklahoma is looking to bounce back after being embarrassed at home. They've had trouble in Lubbock in the past, but they shouldn't have any trouble with this Tech team. Oklahoma 49, Texas Tech 13

Missouri (7-2, 4-1 SEC) @ #24 Texas A&M (7-3, 3-3 SEC)  6:30pm TV: SEC Network

As much as it pains me to say it, Mizzou is pretty damn good this year, even with Indiana loss.  However, Texas A&M is pretty good as well.  In this battle of former Big 12 teams, I give the edge to A&M. Texas A&M 38, Missouri 28

Texas (5-5, 4-3 Big 12) @ Oklahoma State (5-4, 3-3 Big 12)  6:30pm  TV: FOX

Texas is finding their groove, Oklahoma State dropped their miles back.  This should be a laugher. Texas 41, Oklahoma State 14
