Kansas Jayhawks News and Notes 12.4.13

Today's look around the interwebs.

Small group of links today. Only one football story and no volleyball news means there isn't much to link. Hopefully we get more tomorrow.

As mentioned in the comments yesterday, RCT will be starting its own Top 25 poll this Monday.  After spending the last month looking at the field, we feel the time is right to stay making sense of the world of college basketball.

While we all enjoy getting ripped to shreds in the comments, there are still a couple openings for voters.  Please email me with your RCT username if you would like to get involved.

Also, today's Weird Wednesday is likely to be abbreviated. There were no submissions this week, so I'm trying to round up what I can.  Hopefully it comes together.

Self: Shooting just one of KU's struggles | KUsports.com

“As poorly as we played against Villanova (in 63-59 semifinal loss in which the Wildcats hit nine threes to KU’s two), we get one stop and we win against a team that played lights out,” Self added. “We lost to the 14th-ranked team in the country on an awful day where we had a one-point lead, playing as poorly as we can play and don’t get a stop (on late Nova three).”

Nobody is exempt from getting blasted for shying from contact when crashing the boards or chasing loose balls, putting style ahead of substance when on the way to dunks, not running hard in transition in both directions every single time, things like that. For most players coming out of high school, those things aren’t second-nature until bad habits have been cleansed through daily feedback behind the closed doors of practices and the fishbowl of games.

Henrickson said her team needs to show more consistency in all aspects than it has thus far if it hopes to hang with the Razorbacks. And senior CeCe Harper said the Jayhawks’ six-game homestand, which starts tonight and runs through the Big 12 Conference opener against West Virginia on Jan. 2, would be critical.

Georgia Military offensive tackle Devon Williams picks Kansas | KUsports.com

According to Kirby’s report, KU captain Keon Stowers, a former Georgia Military player himself, played a key role in landing both players. “He really helped me on the visit and we clicked right away,” Williams told Kirby. “Since he is from Georgia Military, he knew where I was coming from. He told me it would be a great place for us. I could tell he and the other players really want to win.”
