Redrafting the 2018 NBA Draft: Luka Doncic and Trae Young still go back-to-back, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander cracks top five

+

The 2018 NBA Draft will always be remembered for the Luka Doncic-for-Trae Young swap on draft night, but take a second look at this class and you'll quickly realize it's deeper than you think. While there were undoubtedly some misses in the lottery, there were also a lot of franchises that struck gold with later picks. To name a few: The Suns landed Mikal Bridges at No. 10, the Clippers got Shai Gilgeous-Alexander at No. 11, injury concerns saw Michael Porter Jr. fall to the Nuggets at No. 14, Trail Blazers' Anfernee Simons (No. 24) and Celtics' Robert Williams III (No. 27) both went outside the top 20, and the Mavericks selected Jalen Brunson in the early second round. While the majority of these players are just beginning to establish themselves in the NBA, now feels like an interesting time to revisit the lottery picks with a redraft. Four years removed from the draft, TSN's Kyle Irving and Gilbert McGregor alternated picks and made their selections based on who they thought deserved to go in each draft spot, regardless of what the team selecting needs most at the moment.

LeBron James out Friday, day-to-day with leg muscle strain

+

LeBron James will miss at least the Lakers’ next game after straining a muscle in his leg during Los Angeles’ fourth straight loss on Thursday evening. An MRI exam on James revealed no tears in his adductor muscle, Lakers coach Darvin Ham confirmed on Friday. James is now day-to-day with the strain. The strain first occurred during the fourth quarter of the Clippers’ 114-101 victory over the Lakers. The second-leading scorer in NBA history injured the muscle near his groin and walked gingerly to the locker room following the game. The Lakers host Sacramento on Friday before the Brooklyn Nets visit on Sunday night. The Lakers have the following four days off, which means James could get eight consecutive days of rest while missing only two games. James said after the game that the injury wasn’t as significant as his groin strain on Christmas in 2018 during his first season with the Lakers. That injury sidelined him for nearly a month. James is the Lakers’ leading scorer with 24.9 points per game despite persistent pain in his left foot that has forced him to miss Los Angeles’ game to Utah on Monday which resulted in a loss. James is also contributing 8.8 rebounds and 6.9 assists per game during his 20th NBA season. Despite James’ strong play, the Lakers have the NBA’s second-worst record at 2-9.

Jason Bean's mindset, preparation have him ready to lead KU's offense vs. Oklahoma Bean was KU’s starter for the first nine games of the 2021 season. He led an offense that didn’t have a full offseason to install Andy Kotelnicki’s scheme and was one of the youngest units in the entire Power 5. Bean did his best considering the circumstances. KU had an overall record of 1-8 with the North Texas transfer as the signal caller and the quarterback completed 56.4 percent of his passes with six touchdowns and six interceptions. On the ground, he carried the ball 91 times for 399 yards and two scores. With Jason Bean KU's likely starter vs. OU, meet the quarterback who's expected to back him up With Jalon Daniels doubtful for KU’s road game against Oklahoma this week, Jason Bean will step in to lead the Jayhawks against the Sooners. But with the senior quarterback about to start his first game since November of last year, it means KU will need someone else available as Bean’s backup. Thousands of KU basketball fans pack Wichita East for first stop on barnstorming tour

+

When he was 8 years old, Lane Stanberry didn’t show up early enough among the thousands of KU fans in Wichita hoping to secure an autograph from the seniors on the 2008 national championship team. The Wichita native didn’t make the same mistake again. Stanberry was first in line at Wichita East High School on Saturday for the first event to kick off KU’s 2022 national championship barnstorming tour, showing up at 7:30 a.m. when the doors didn’t open until 1:30 p.m. for VIP ticket holders. "I’ve been a KU fan since I was a little kid and I love these barnstorming events because of the access and being able to meet the people you root for and watch the entire year," Stanberry said. "When they announced that all but one of the players were going to be here, I was shocked. I bought tickets immediately. I was not going to miss something like this. How many chances are there going to be like this to have almost the entire team here?" Stanberry was one of an estimated 3,000 fans who waited in line for hours in the 80-degree heat, hoping to get a small piece of memorabilia signed by their favorite Jayhawks. The line of general admission ticket-holders was so long that it wrapped all around the side of East High School and extended clear back to the intersection of Douglas and Grove. No KU Jayhawks enter transfer portal by deadline: ‘Our team is not set by any stretch’

+

The May 1 deadline for college basketball players to enter the NCAA transfer portal and still be eligible to play during the 2022-23 season has passed with no Kansas Jayhawks electing to switch schools. That’s in contrast to a year ago, when KU lost five players to the portal while gaining four transfers. KU coach Bill Self said Friday he’s happy to have everybody back. The current returning scholarship players are KJ Adams, Zach Clemence, Kyle Cuffe, Dajuan Harris, Cam Martin, Bobby Pettiford and Joseph Yesufu.
