Kansas Jayhawks Football Predictions: Coastal Carolina Chanticleers

The crew gets together to tell you what is going to happen tonight in the first road game of the season.

NCAA Football: The Citadel at Coastal Carolina David Yeazell-USA TODAY Sports

It’s week 2, and the Kansas Jayhawks travel to Conway, SC to take on the ranked Coastal Carolina Chanticleers. Do they stand a chance? Is there any reason to think that we can see one of the biggest upsets of the season this week in this game?

Take a look at what our staff thinks, and then leave your own prediction in the comments below!

Mike.Plank: Well after whatever THAT was against South Dakota, I’m not drinking any kool-aid this week. The betting line has moved from 28 to 24 in the last two days and I just don’t get it. The KU offensive line still appears to be a massive project, and coaches have only just begun this Herculean work. This game has 52-14 written all over it. Ok, maybe we kick a couple of field goals and they don’t. Coastal Carolina 56, Kansas 20.

dnoll5: Watching the game on Friday required drinks for me. Lots of drinks. This Friday’s suffering should be easier to understand because the opponent is good, but if I’m watching, beverages will be consumed. I want to predict infinity to zero for the remainder of the schedule, but infinity seems hard to achieve. Zero doesn’t though. Coastal Carolina 48, Kansas 0.

Kyle_Davis21: If you want some optimism, Coastal Carolina only gave up 14 points but didn’t force any turnovers and only sacked The Citadel’s QB once in week 1. So maybe Bean looks a little more settled and in-tune with his receivers and the offensive line can do something (anything) more than what it did against South Dakota. Still, after what we saw a week ago, I can’t pick this team to go on the road against a ranked opponent and come out with a win. Coastal Carolina 42, Kansas 21

Fizzle406: I expect a tidal wave (get it? because they are Coastal Carolina) of mauling tonight. Week 1 was fun but I expect to lose every single game from here on. At least we can look forward to Houston and Cincinnati in the future (vomit emoji). Coastal Carolina 48, Kansas 6

Andy Mitts: Look, I WANT to be optimistic about this team. And I know that not only does Kansas have a ton of places to improve, but they will likely improve drastically as the season goes on. But this is probably one of the 3 toughest games on their schedule, so I’m not expecting it to really be close late. Sure, Kansas is going to be able to score. Sure, as Joe Cashion said on the podcast, Coastal was preparing for an option team a majority of the offseason, which MIGHT give KU a chance to catch them flat-footed while also explaining the low sacks/pressures numbers from last week. But this team is much more talented and cohesive than the Jayhawks right now, especially at the positions that matter (OL and DL). I think that Kansas can keep it respectable going into the half and claw some back to cover at the end of the game, but I don’t see how this one is ever actually going to be in doubt. Coastal Carolina 38, Kansas 20.
