The newest KU basketball commit is Gradey Dick, a consensus top-50 member of the class of 2022. Dick, listed at SF, 6’7” and 200lbs, is ranked #43 overall by 247Sports, #21 by ESPN, and #33 by Rivals. He chose Kansas over a finalist list that included Baylor, Illinois, Oklahoma State, Texas Tech, Purdue, Florida, and Alabama.
All three recruiting sites note his shot-making ability, particularly from behind the arc, and also describe him as a skilled passer. He began his high school career at Wichita Collegiate, where he played his freshman and sophomore years before transferring to Sunrise Christian Academy, which is just north of Wichita.
His teammate and roommate at Sunrise, SG Kyle Cuffe, is already a KU commit (and top-100 player in his own right). Additionally, Sunrise teammate Zach Clemence, a member of the 2021 class, signed with KU last November and will join the Jayhawks next season. Dick’s KU connections run much deeper than that, however, as he has had two older brothers already graduate from KU, as well as a third older brother who is currently enrolled. Dick also noted his friendship with current KU guard Christian Braun played a role in his decision as well.
KU now has two 4-star recruits for the class of 2022. However, remember that these are non-binding verbal commits, and anything could change between now and then, especially considering the hot water KU appears to be in with the NCAA.
