The Rock Chalkboard

KU basketball coach Bill Self uses unique recruiting philosophy
"Obviously there’s off-the-court things — there’s character; there’s IQ; there’s a lot of things," Self said. "But just from a physical standpoint what I look for is (1) explosiveness [and] quick twitch. (2) Can you shoot? — I didn’t say score, I said shoot. And then (3) is he tough? And sometimes the toughness deal is hard to figure out, but to me if you get all three of those and you go to a place that works with you, you’re going to be an all-league player. I honestly believe that."
