What we all feared, but had come to expect within the last 24 hours, has been officially announced. The NCAA Tournament for both men’s and women’s basketball, has been cancelled. Obviously there are more important matters at play right now, but it’s especially disappointing to Kansas fans, whose team was virtually guaranteed the overall 1 seed and a good shot at a Final Four or more.
From the NCAA’s statement:
“This decision is based on the evolving COVID-19 public health threat, our ability to ensure the events do not contribute to spread of the pandemic, and the impracticality of hosting such events at any time during this academic year given ongoing decisions by other entities.”
The NCAA joins the NBA, MLS and MLB in postponing or cancelling competition as the country deals with the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.
