Q&A: TJ Finley on LSU taking two QBs, the transfer era, more
TJ Finley, a hulking 6-foot-6, 239-pound four-star prospect, does not fit in the above five-star category, but his status as one of two LSU quarterback commits in the 2020 class might be a byproduct of the transferring quarterback trend that’s only grown more dizzying in the age of the NCAA Transfer Portal. Upwards of 100 quarterbacks (scholarship and non-scholarship) at least tested the portal waters this past cycle, per 247Sports data, including 24 who were rated four stars or better as a high-school recruit.

First-year Baker football coach Jason Thoren primed and ready for new role | KUsports.com
“For me, it was all about that I knew that I loved football from a very, very young age,” Thoren said after a recent Baker high school camp in Lawrence. “So it wasn’t really a choice of if I wanted to coach, it just sort of happened. Those first couple of years after college, I couldn’t get away from it. The smell in the air leading up to fall camp and things like that made me feel like I have to be around football. I finished playing and the next year I was like, ‘Well, it’s football season. I’ve got to do something with football.’ So I went over to Lawrence High and helped Coach (Dick) Purdy.”

Landen Lucas to play with Atlanta Hawks in NBA Summer League
“Last year, I had an injury in Tokyo, came back and was healing up on that,” Lucas said in an interview session earlier this spring. “The process didn’t go as smooth as I would have liked. And so I ended up going back overseas. And so with this break, it gives me even more time to finish healing up and with this other avenue of business and stuff that I’m getting into, I’m able to really focus in on what I want to do with basketball, and that’s play at the highest level. And I’m able to put all my attention toward that, and it’s similar to my decision to come to Kansas.”
