The 2019-20 Kansas roster is still taking shape, but Tuesday night it came one step closer to being finalized, as 4 star high school recruit Tristan Enaruna officially committed to Bill Self and the Jayhawks.
Enaruna comes to Kansas from Wasatch Academy in Mount Pleasant, Utah, though he's originally from the Netherlands and only came to the US just over a year ago. Depending on where you look, he's listed somewhere between 6'7 and 6'10. He's considered a wing, but with that type of size and his reported versatility, it seems likely he could step in and play a small ball PF role, like we've seen Josh Jackson and Svi Mykhailiuk play in recent years. Per the KC Star, his high school coach brags Enaruna is capable of playing all five positions on the court.
Enaruna is a top 100 recruit no matter where you look, though there are differing opinions of him. Rivals ranks him 44th nationally, while 247 rates him 53rd and ESPN barely puts him in at 97th. His skills a reportedly a bit raw, so he's likely to have a role off the bench this upcoming season. 247 Sports' write-up of February's Basketball Without Borders showcase included this about Enaruna:
"Enaruna played with purpose, knocked down long-range shots with ease and showed off an impressive feel and IQ for the game. Enaruna has the versatility to play as a wing or a face up four in college"
The consensus seems to be that Enaruna is an athlete who can shoot and defend, but that his overall game is still developing. As of today, shooting is still a concern for next year's Jayhawks, so even if Enaruna is able to play some minutes in a 3-and-D role he could provide immediate value, with the potential to be a standout player in his sophomore year.
As Self looks to compete the roster in the coming weeks, the Jayhawks are still in on graduate transfers Rayjon Tucker and TJ Holyfield, and are now considered by many to be favorites for 5 star combo guard RJ Hampton, who recently decided to reclassify to the 2019 class.
