A strong pitching performance from sophomore starting pitcher Steve Washilewski (3-2) pushed the Jayhawks to a 2-1 win in game one. After sparking a rally in the eighth inning to trim their deficit to one, Kansas (27-22) fell short of Jackson State (30-22) by an 8-7 margin in the second game of a doubleheader.
