Jeff Goodman tweeted on Saturday that a “source” has said KU forward Dedric Lawson will hire an agent and declare for the NBA Draft.
Goodman’s tweet:
Not exactly a shock, but Kansas forward Dedric Lawson expected to sign with an agent and declare for NBA Draft, source told @Stadium.
— Jeff Goodman (@GoodmanHoops) April 6, 2019
A similar source also indicated to Goodman a few days ago that KJ Lawson would enter the transfer portal; that was later confirmed by various media outlets, including KU Athletics. Bleacher Report is already running with the news about Dedric Lawson.
No KU beat writers, Bill Self, or anyone involved with Kansas Athletics has commented on the situation as of the time of this posting.
In his one season at KU (after sitting out a year due to transfer rules), Lawson averaged a double-double for Kansas with 19.4 points and 10.3 rebounds per game while shooting over 39% from behind the arc and 49.0% from the field overall. The 6’9”, 235-lb junior started every game for Kansas in the 2018-19 season.
Despite not having a single senior on the roster this past season, if this report is correct the Jayhawks now have three open scholarships for next season with the departures of Charlie Moore, KJ Lawson, and Dedric Lawson. KU fans anxiously await decisions from Udoka Azubuike, Quentin Grimes, and Silvio de Sousa on their futures as well.
