Media glows about Kansas four-guard lineup in win
Kansas claimed a 12-point win over a solid UNC Greensboro team that returned five of its top seven players from last year's team that won 29 games, but the biggest news came after the game was finished, when Jayhawk coach Bill Self revealed that freshman Jalen Wilson, the No. 53 overall prospect in the 2019 247Sports Composite, broke his ankle. Wilson won't return until conference play at the earliest, and even then, Self could have a decision to make.
Jalen Wilson breaks ankle, out for three months per Bill Self
"Yeah, it's a bad one," Self said after the game, a 74-62 KU win. "He broke [his ankle] and it'll require surgery early next week. Timetable on return will probably be close to three months. I'm not going to tell you that he'll for sure sit the rest of the year, but the likelihood of that is pretty strong."
Bill Self, KU basketball turn to four-guard approach vs. UNC-G
Yes, KU got its sharpshooter Isaiah Moss back — although Self doesn’t think Moss is 100 percent yet — but it also lost a versatile wing that could fill in at the three and as a small-ball four. With Wilson out for the foreseeable future, KU is down to nine scholarship players, six of whom are guards. If KU does want to play four guards for long periods, the margin for error just became that much slimmer.

While that often has included dates with Kentucky, Duke, Villanova, Arizona and Michigan State, it also has been true outside of the power conferences, where KU continually has welcomed to Allen Fieldhouse the top teams in several mid-major conferences.
