Bill Walton is Glorious and I Won't Hear any Disparaging Remarks

Brian Spurlock-USA TODAY Sports

Ok, let me get this straight. People don't like listening to Bill Walton?????

I don't understand it. He is simply amazing. Now, I get it, perhaps you turn to college basketball for some insight and information from the color analyst. Maybe you do that. Maybe I do it too, when the game means something. But I like to be entertained, and against Chaminade, a team where some sort of aside was warranted 15 real time minutes into the game, Bill Walton made it really fun to watch. This was never a contest, so why not listen to his old hippy mind ramble on for a while.

As Bill said to his broadcasting partner, "It's a TV show."

He's right.

Some of his best lines of the night:

  • Likening KU to a breaching whale (and then ESPN adding a breaching whale graphic).
  • Comparing Dok's power and strength to a waterfall- one of the things Walton enjoys outside of "being on TV or flying to be on TV."
  • Somehow incorporating a Bob Dylan concert that a friend of his was going to into a conversation about Virginia Tech's game plan to beat Michigan State.
  • Constantly trying to give us a geography lesson about places like Nigeria, Angola, the Netherlands, and Idaho Falls for some reason.
It's glorious.

So let's just let old Bill eat a coffee can full of edibles and blabber on and on and on about rainbows and Maui Jim (I think he might've thought the place they were in was the Maui Gym) and blowholes and sunrises and waves.

I mean, anything is better than listening to Brian Hanni, right?
