How Kansas football has gone from Orange Bowl to sour
What followed was the most successful run in Kansas football history. Mangino went to the Tangerine Bowl in 2003, the Jayhawks’ first bowl game since the Big 12’s inception in 1996. Two years later came Kansas’ first bowl win in the Big 12 era in the Fort Worth Bowl. From 2007-08 came a two-year period where Kansas went to back-to-back bowls for the first time in school history, winning both (including the Orange Bowl) and getting 20 wins.

Notebook: KU wideout Steven Sims Jr. 'tough' on himself after TD drop |
“Everybody knows that. It is what it is. It happens. I’ve got to make the play next time,” Sims said. “I know I’m capable of making that play, so I’m tough on myself. I’m on myself a lot more than anybody else, so it’s all right. I’m going to bounce back this week.”

Gameday Breakdown: KU football at Central Michigan |
A quick start for both sides of the ball is the perfect way for the Jayhawks to put their most recent defeat far behind them. Considering the offense began the season with a three-and-out and the defense relented in its first series of the season, allowing the Colonels to travel 78 yards for a touchdown, there should be even greater incentive for the Jayhawks to prove in the opening minutes at CMU that they learned some valuable lessons from their 2018 debut.
