The 2019 recruiting class has changed significantly and yet not much at all over the past three months.

It’s been 92 days since we posted our first check-in on the 2019 Kansas football recruiting class. It’s a good news/bad news kind of deal. The good news is, the class has doubled in size over the past three months. The bad news is twofold: 1) The class went from one player to two players, and 2) the player they had three months has decommitted.

Here are the players KU currently has (non-binding) verbal commitments from:

Cole Mueller RB 6'0" 192 lbs *** ** Wentzville, MO
Clay Cundiff TE 6'4" 230 lbs *** *** Wichita, KS Ill St, UNI, SDak, SDakSt

Here are KU’s decommits; so far, it’s just the one player:

Lance LegeGendre QB 6'2" 205 lbs **** **** New Orleans, LA LSU, Bama, FSU, UGA, Tenn, A&M

Obviously, David Beaty has a lot of work to do. Despite his claims to the contrary, it’s pretty obvious that Beaty’s perceived lack of job security has affected Kansas on the recruiting trail. The Jayhawks have the fewest number of verbals so far in the Big 12. K-State is close with six, but every other Big 12 team has 15 or more verbal commits for the 2019 class.

In fact, only four other P5 schools that have fewer than 10 commits at point: Maryland, UCLA, Utah, Washington State.

Per 247Sports, the following are players that have shown reciprocal interest in KU.

Firing Beaty will be much easier despite the buyout if things don’t pick up on the recruiting trail - and pick up quickly.
