Notebook: Rivalry Renewed picks up lots of local media attention

I don’t care if Monday’s blue

I don’t really get this rivalry renewed thing. People keep talking about it like it’s the Border War and, well, it’s just not. I did like this piece about Missouri players’ favorite memories of when the real games were played. I think my favorite one is the quote where the Missouri player talks about beating KU twice - in four years - during his time at mU and that being a highlight.

For his part, Bill Self was happy for the KU alums who participated, and says that his current Jayhawks have had a productive summer.

Tyrel Reed and Brandon Rush would like to see the schools meet again for real, but Sherron Collins says he still hates those guys.

Kareem Rush wants to expand “rivalry renewed” and add more teams and games, such as mU-Illinois and KU-KState.

ESPN’s preseason BPI shows Kansas as the #1 team for 2018-19, followed by Gonzaga.

Benton Smith writes that recent comments by David Beaty make it appear as if the coach is open to the idea of balancing the offense more toward the run game. Jon Kirby at JayhawkSlant penned an article along the same theme. Hmm, who have I been reading that’s been preaching that all summer... where did I see that...

Anyway. Steven Sims seems to expect big things from Evan Fairs and Kerr Johnson in 2018.

In other news...

The #1 football recruit for the class of 2019 took a recruiting visit to... Florida A&M?

Getting Nick Saban to KU just became more difficult as he signed an extension with Alabama over the weekend.

The MLB trade deadline is coming up.
