Red, red wine, goes to my head

NCAA Football: Big 12 Media Day Kevin Jairaj-USA TODAY Sports

Bob Bowlsby apparently came to media days completely unprepared, and that is unacceptable in a P5 commissioner. One of the first questions he was asked was about legalized sports gambling, to which he admitted he didn’t expect to talk about that topic.

In a surprisingly non-Matt Tait article, Steven Sims is confident his numbers will improve over last season.

Jesse Newell says that defensive rebounding, one of KU’s biggest weaknesses last year, should be one of its greatest strengths next year.

Matt Scott, founder of TheShiver and formerly of 247Sports, is no longer just a blogger, and Matt Tait is thrilled for him.

In other news...

If punting cost teams a point every time, KU would have lost to Iowa State 36 to -13 last year. (I’m all for this, btw. No doubt David Beaty’s head would explode.)

UNC AD Bubba Cunningham backed up Larry Fedora’s comments from ACC media days.

The Cleveland Browns remade “The Office” intro and it’s actually pretty good.

The NFL is reconsidering its national anthem policy.
