Big 12 Tournament: Kansas vs Kansas State Open Game Thread

Can K-State break the KU jinx?

NCAA Basketball: Big 12 Conference Tournament-Kansas v Oklahoma State Amy Kontras-USA TODAY Sports

Kansas (25-7, 13-5) is currently ranked #9 in the AP Poll.

Kansas State (22-10, 10-8) comes in unranked but receiving votes.

The Wildcats are still somehow coached by Bruce Weber, who is infamous for his play-hard charts and his funerals for people who aren’t dead yet.

As is tradition, Kansas swept K-State in regular season series, taking an unusually close 73-72 game in Lawrence prior to handling KSU with relative ease 70-56 in Manhattan.

The Jayhawks still lead the all-time series against the Wildcats, 195-93. But it was totally close up until 1988. (No, it wasn’t.) KU has won 56 of the last 61 matchups, including the last seven in a row. However, three of the last four matchups have been decided by three points or less, and six of the last 10 have been single-digit margins.

For a “tournament that doesn’t matter,” Kansas is 42-11 all-time in the Big 12 Tournament, winning it 10 out of 21 tries, with by far the best winning percentage (.792) than any other school in this event (OU is next-best at 22-19, .537).

Bill Self is 28-7 at Kansas in the Big 12 Tournament, and KU is 20-4 in conference tournament games played at Sprint Center.
