Free State OL Jalan Robinson commits to Kansas

The news slipped through the cracks a bit, but the local product plans to stay home.

Jalan Robinson has decided to take KU up on that scholarship offer after all.

For a while, it looked like the KU coaching staff may have missed the boat on this one. Robinson, a three-star (per Rivals) prep OL out of local Lawrence Free State High, was as of the end of January being recruited by the Jayhawks as a preferred walk-on. At the same time, he was mulling scholarship offers from Western Illinois and a number of Division 2 schools.

Then came an offer from Mississippi State, quickly followed by an offer from Nebraska. Kansas waited until the day before signing day to offer a scholarship.

Fortunately for the Jayhawks, Robinson decided to postpone his decision and not commit anywhere on national signing day.

KU really seemed to focus on offensive line for this class, as Robinson becomes the fifth OL to ink with the Jayhawks, joining preps Nick Williams, Jacobi Lott, Mac Copeland, and Juco Reuben Lewis.

However, it should also be noted that offensive line is actually a current position of depth for Kansas. KU returns 8 of 10 from last year’s two-deep, including four of the five guys who started the final two games of the 2017 campaign.

While it’s good to see Kansas getting some of these local recruits, I must say I’m not thrilled with the timeline here. Regardless, I’m glad it worked out him the way he wanted, and I’m glad to see some of the local kids going to Lawrence to play football.

Robinson joins the class of 2018 and should be on campus this fall.
