Katie McClure’s pair of goals pushes Kansas Soccer past Saint Louis.

The Jayhawks advance to the second round for the second time in as many appearances.

Katie McClure scored twice, including a golden goal with just over 6 minutes left in the second overtime period, as Kansas defeated Saint Louis to advance to the second round of the NCAA Women’s Soccer Tournament on Friday, November 16th. They are slated to face the winner of tomorrow’s North Carolina-Howard game.

The first 20 minutes of the match were pretty uneventful, as the teams traded attacks early before Katie McClure broke through with her first goal in the 19th minute.

But the lead didn’t last for long, as SLU’s Maddie Pokorny slipped behind the Jayhawk defenders and buried one in the back of the net.

Neither team was able to make any headway during the second half, as the score stayed knotted at one at the end of regulation.

The first overtime period passed without any serious challenges from either team, but it took less than 4 minutes in the second OT to end the game.

If North Carolina, the 1 seed in the region, advances as expected, Kansas will face a rematch of their 2-0 elimination at the hands of the Tar Heels in the 2016 NCAA Tournament. We will have a better idea of what the Jayhawks will be facing tomorrow afternoon, as Howard-North Carolina starts at noon.

Kansas was one of 4 Big 12 teams in action tonight, with TCU advancing 2-1 over BYU, Texas Tech advancing 3-0 over Princeton, and Texas losing 1-0 against Virginia Tech. Baylor is in action against Abilene Christian and West Virginia faces off against Radford tomorrow to round out the Big 12 slate.
