Tracking Potential Head Coach Candidates for KU Football - Week 7

No one knows what Jeff Long is thinking, but we’re keeping an eye on potential Beaty replacements throughout the season.

NCAA Football: Arizona at Houston Troy Taormina-USA TODAY Sports

Standard Intro: As requested by the commentariat, I’ve put together a list of most of the potential head coaching candidates that we discussed here at RCT during the offseason. You can find the links to those articles here, and here is the first post and explanation for why so-and-so is or isn’t on the list.

Eastern Michigan had a huge win over Toledo this past weekend, while Houston, North Texas, Army, Fresno, and Appalachian State all marched on with victories as well. Troy suffered a setback at the hands of the evil Turner Gill and Liberty, but I still expect Neal Brown to be on the short list for any P5 AD looking for a coach this winter.

And with their win over Wisconsin, barring a complete collapse in November, I have officially removed Jim Harbaugh from consideration. Obviously if he wants to come we’ll take him, but the dream of Michigan firing him after another 8-5 season appears dead.

Navy is having a disappointing year so far; same with Wyoming. Willie Fritz is also struggling at Tulane in a year in which many people thought the Green Wave would be able to turn things around. However, the season is only half over; there’s still a LOT of football to be played!

Once again, in alphabetical order:

Once again, my personal list is as follows, in order of my favorites: Neal Brown, Seth Littrell, Jeff Monken, Chris Creighton, Jeff Tedford, Willie Fritz, Jason Candle, Tim Beck. KU fans should be happy if any of these guys end up in Lawrence at the end of the year.

It should also be noted that Bob Stitt, a dark-horse candidate in these circles the last time around, is currently an offensive analyst with Oklahoma State. Names of coaches that are currently unemployed include Les Miles, Bret Bielema, Todd Graham, and recent tweets indicate Mark Mangino may be looking to get back on the sidelines as well.
