Notebook: Self says delay on Billy Preston isn’t the NCAA’s fault

Disarm you with a smile

NCAA Basketball: Texas Tech at Kansas Denny Medley-USA TODAY Sports

Bill Self says the delay in the Billy Preston case isn’t the NCAA’s fault.

The concerns Self had about his team following the Stanford game manifested themselves in a big way against Texas Tech.

Tech contested a lot of KU’s shots, but the Jayhawks missed open, quality looks from behind the arc as well.

With an uncharacteristic start to the season, the Jayhawks better not wait until it’s too late to right the ship - and too late could come too quickly in the loaded Big 12.

Class of 2018 recruiting target Zion Williamson has set a decision date.

Texas Tech students just discovered that their school has a basketball program. “How we are at football games is exactly how we should be at basketball games,” said one student.

At least one guy out there thinks KU football is winning 3 games next year, with the caveat that, “... it’s hard to see where exactly the wins will come on the schedule.”

The KU women’s bball squad is now 2-1 in the Big 12 after knocking off Texas Tech last night. It’s coach Brandon Schneider’s first Big 12 road win. KU hosts #6 Baylor Saturday in Lawrence.

In other news...

So UCF is hanging a banner declaring themselves national champions; here are 28 other programs who should do the exact same thing.

Competitive pressure along with pure dollars could bring about an 8-team playoff sooner than expected.

The UMKC women’s basketball team won a game 90-10 against a small, private, unaccredited bible college out of Moberly, MO. I’d be interested to hear how this game came to be scheduled.

The “perfect season” parade that Cleveland Browns fans have been organizing is actually going to happen, thanks to its sponsors: Excedrin and FarmersOnly.com.
