Betting the Big 12: Week 5

Good grief, Oklahoma, what are you doing?

NCAA Football: Texas Christian at Oklahoma State Rob Ferguson-USA TODAY Sports

Only three games in the Big 12 this week after having just four games last week. Of course, I guess even when all of the teams are in action there will only be five games per week, so how hard can it get, right?

Right.

LAST WEEK

West Virginia -21.5 @ Kansas, WON $45

Texas Tech @ Houston, Over 71 points, LOST $40

TCU @ Oklahoma State, Over 71 points, WON $36

Oklahoma -28 @ Baylor, LOST $50

STATUS

Starting bank: $1,000

+/- for the year: +$192

Week 4 Won/Loss: -$9

New bank: $1,183

Last week: 2-2

Overall picks: 16-9

Well that was rough. What the hell was Oklahoma doing not playing defense? And what the hell was Texas Tech doing playing defense?

This is craziness!

And why you should never, ever, EVER, bet on sports! Standard reminder that this is for entertainment purposes only. I am not a real gambler. This is monopoly money. Do NOT take my advice (EVER). Never bet more than you can afford to lose. Bet with your head, not over it.

Texas @ Iowa State

Line: Texas -5

O/U: 63.5

Moneyline: +175

Wow, really? Is Iowa State that good? Is this another case of Vegas knows something I don’t? I figured Texas would be at least a 10 point favorite. Seems like a low number too, so forget the point spread in this one.

My bet: $40 on the OVER

Baylor @ Kansas State

Line: Kansas State -17

O/U: 59

Moneyline: +600

The question here is, did Baylor gain confidence last week, or did the wind completely go out of their sails? K-State likes to score points at home, especially against Texas schools, so let’s play the Over again.

My bet: $40 on the OVER

Oklahoma State @ Texas Tech

Line: Oklahoma State -9.5

O/U: 83.5

Moneyline: +290

Oklahoma State has GOT to be disappointed with the way the performed last week in a loss against TCU. Can the Pokes regroup on the road? Surely this offense will have something fun for the Raiders. Still, that’s A LOT of points to cover. I don’t think I’ll be taking any spreads this week.

My bet: $40 on the UNDER

RECAP

Just for the record, if I had to bet against the spread, I would take all of the home teams. So what the hell, let’s put down a $20 parlay with Iowa State +5, Kansas State -17, and Texas Tech -9.5.

$40 Texas @ Iowa State OVER 63.5 points

$40 Baylor @ Kansas State OVER 59 points

$40 Oklahoma State @ Texas Tech UNDER 83.5 points

DrCrushALot’s Picks of the Week

Each week, DrCrushALot will provide a maximum of five games that he likes.

Last Week: 3-1 (Looking at YOU, Oklahoma State.)

2017 record: 11-1 (Still looking at YOU, Oklahoma State – this had better not be the start of failure.)

Starting Bank: $1,000

Week 4 Won/Loss: +13

+/- for the year: +301

New bank: $1,301

Week 5 Picks

Miami @ Duke +6.5: I really like the job Mark Richt is doing in Miami and I think “The U” is riding high on Friday night. Note: this line was much more in my favor on Monday at -5. (mikeville = jerk)

Bet: $30 Miami -6.5

Nebraska @ Illinois +7: Bettors so far are correct in piling the cash on Illinois (original line +9.5). Illinois is coming off a bye-week, playing at home on Friday which means Nebraska loses one practice due to travel. Illinois is getting back their best defensive player and Nebraska's QB was so bad last week that commentators said during the game that, "Nebraska coaches need to tell Tanner Lee to throw it the guys in the red jerseys." Ouch.

Bet: $20 Illinois +7

Florida State @ Wake Forest +7.5: Vegas is way over-reacting to the loss against NC State for Florida State.

Bet: $40 Florida State -7.5
