Twitter Recap: #9 Kansas Jayhawks Volleyball sweeps Montana

Kansas puts on a dominating performance to remain undefeated in their final match of the Wolverine Invitational.

The Kansas Jayhawks were 5-0 coming into today’s match, but the first two matches didn’t come quite as easily as we thought it would. Instead of continuing those worries, the Jayhawks completed dominated in their match against Montana today. We recap the action with a big assist from our friends over at the KU Volleyball Twitter account (@KUVolleyball).

First Set:

Kansas came out on fire early, with the offense failing to have any of the struggles that we saw in yesterday’s match.

Montana got three quick points back, but Kansas showed off the explosiveness on both offense and defense, putting together a huge 12-2 run

The domination continued, as Montana only scored 4 more points the rest of the way.

Second Set:

Once again, Kansas got out to a hot start in the set.

This time, Montana was able to pull back within striking distance, getting within 13-12.

But Montana wasn’t finished, sticking with the Jayhawks and even taking a 21-20 lead until Madison Rigdon took over.

Rigdon scored the last 4 points by the Jayhawks (plus 1 point on a service error) to take the set.

(Yes, that tweet is wrong.)

Third Set:

Montana finally came out hot, building an 8-4 lead early in the set. But Kansas wasn’t about to let one get away, going on a quick run to take back control of the set.

And the run didn’t finish there.

Kansas didn’t let up at all, finishing the set on an 8-3 run.

This was the kind of performance that this team needed, a dominating match from start to finish. The few times that they were challenged, they quickly turned it around.

Kansas is back in action Monday, September 4th as the Jayhawks host the Kentucky Wildcats in a Labor Day afternoon matchup. First serve is scheduled for 1 pm. The match will be available on WatchESPN, online or on select local Jayhawk radio affiliates.
