This morning, the Big 12 and SEC announced the matchups for the fifth annual Big 12/SEC Challenge, pitting the entire Big 12 against 10 schools from the SEC.
This year, Kansas will host the Texas A&M Aggies at Allen Fieldhouse, a team that they have beaten 20 out of 21 games all-time in their history. The Aggies, coached by Billy Kennedy, finished 16-15 last year, including an 8-10 record in the SEC. However, they return freshman star big man Robert Williams and add point guard J.J. Caldwell, along with much of their lineup from last year, giving them the core of a team with the potential to improve greatly.
Here is the full slate of games:
Baylor at Florida
Tennessee at Iowa State
Texas A&M at Kansas
Georgia at Kansas State
Oklahoma at Alabama
Oklahoma State at Arkansas
TCU at Vanderbilt
Mississippi at Texas
Texas Tech at South Carolina
Kentucky at West Virginia
Of note is that Baylor is the only Big 12 team that is undefeated in the challenge, while West Virginia is the only one with a losing record. Also, despite speculation that the conferences might try to force a Kansas-Missouri matchup, the Tigers are not participating in the challenge this year. This most likely has much more to do with last year’s record as opposed to team they will have this year.
