Awful shooting, poor rebounding, and a terrible offensive game plan by Kansas saw the Oregon Ducks absolutely embarrass the Jayhawks in their own backyard at Sprint Center in Kansas City.
Oregon shot a ridiculous 60.0% from the field in the first half and didn’t cool down much in the second half, finishing the game with an overall shooting percentage of 50.9% from the floor.
This game was close for about the first 15 minutes, but don’t kid yourself, Kansas never had a chance in the second half, trailing by double digits almost the entire half.
Kansas, meanwhile, thought it would be a good idea to completely abandon what got them a 1-seed (three point shooting) and pound the ball down low to Landen Lucas early and often. Sadly, Lucas took the most shots of any Jayhawk in the first half.
KU finished an awful 5-25 (20.0%) from behind the arc.
Frank Mason had 20 points but took 20 shots, while Devonte Graham missed all seven of his shots.
In what will turn out to be his final game as a Jayhawk, Josh Jackson picked up two early fouls and outside of a few highlight plays in the second half was ineffective the rest of the way.
Did I mention how embarrassing this game was? A wounded Oregon team waltzed into Kansas City, barely beat a 7-seed in the Sweet 16, then absolutely pummeled the Jayhawks at their own game.
Bill Self falls to 2-7 in the Elite 8 as a head coach.
