Kansas Football Recruiting Profile: J.J. Holmes signs with Jayhawks

Huge DT prospect will have to compete for playing time.

NCAA Football: South Dakota State at Kansas John Rieger-USA TODAY Sports

Holmes went to junior college straight out of high school, and despite having offers from major Division 1 schools after his freshman year, elected to return to JUCO for his sophomore season. K-State, Iowa State, and Missouri were among the schools vying for his service, but Holmes orally committed to KU in the week leading up to the December signing period. Holmes joins a crowded defensive line at Kansas, with everyone on the two-deep returning for 2017, including All-Big 12 selection Daniel Wise.

Holmes signed with KU in December and is already on campus, expected to participate in spring ball.
