It’s that time again. Time to travel to the dark and cold confines of Hilton Coliseum, where the locals proclaim there is some dark voodoo called “Hilton Magic”. I’ve seen it happen a few times, but it’s hard to know when it will actually strike. Will the Kansas Jayhawks be able to travel in during a Big Monday matchup and escape unscathed? Leave us your prediction in the comments below, but don’t forget to read what our writers think about the game tonight first.
Jakebogen95: Kansas will play their first game as the no.1 overall team in the country. I don’t expect these down to the wire Big 12 games to go away anytime soon. I do however see KU winning comfortably. Kansas 87, ISU 72
Fizzle406: The Hawkeyes have taken some losses from last year in terms of personnel but they still do have good pieces. Hilton is always a tough place to play but I don't think this will be as tough of a game as it has been in years past. Kansas 86, ISU 79
KU Grad 08: Semisonic’s transcendental record “Feeling Strangely Fine” is a good way to sum up how I feel. It hasn’t been pretty lately. The defense is bad. ISU can score. The game is at Hilton. Feels like it should be a loss. Yet for some reason, I think KU responds and gets it done. From what I’ve seen from ISU this season, they are prone to taking some bad shots and have lapses where they don’t play any defense. I think we will once again somehow squeak one out. Kansas 88, Iowa 87.
David: For the first time this year, I’m predicting a KU loss (or maybe I picked us to lose to Duke, I don’t remember). Iowa State’s offense is starting to come around, and Kansas’ defense is still looking shaky. A hot shooting night could definitely bail KU out, but they’ve been playing with fire at times in conference play, and Ames isn’t a place to play with fire. I think KU gets burned. Iowa State 81, Kansas 79
dnoll5: I feel like picking a KU loss in Hilton is the easy thing to do, so I’m going to say that KU rises to the task. This would’ve been the perfect defense for Georges Niang to exploit, but alas, he has taken his four rings and graduated from Iowa State. For some reason, I think Kansas will find the three point stroke again in this one, and will shut up all those farmers who really believe that magic is a real thing. Kansas 88, Iowa State 78.
Andy: Kansas is the brand new number one, and supposedly there is a curse that comes along with that. I really do think that Iowa State COULD win this one, but that’s usually the case when we go there. However, despite the last 4 trips being games that we probably should have lost, we only managed to drop the last two. Kansas is definitely more talented overall, and the TCU game on Saturday didn’t do much to make me think that Iowa State can keep pace with these Jayhawks, even on the inside. Kansas doesn’t make it look easy, but then again, nothing ever does in the Big 12. Kansas 89, Iowa State 83
