Willis came to KU in 2015 as a three-star recruit out of Bishop Miege HS in Kansas City. He started the final 8 games of his freshman year, eventually setting a KU freshman record with 1,719 yards and 9 TDs.
He struggled to get much playing time in his sophomore season of 2016, battling with Montell Cozart and Carter Stanley for snaps throughout the season. He finished 2016 72-117 for 811 yards with 3 TDs against 7 INTs.
I assume Willis will have to sit out 2017 in accordance with NCAA transfer rules, and have two years of eligibility remaining starting in 2018.
A quick look at Virginia Tech’s roster shows that their starting QB in 2016, Jerod Evans, was a junior, so Willis should have the opportunity to compete for the starting position in 2018.
