It’s been quite the up-and-down roller coaster experience for Thomas Robinson in the NBA. The Vertical reports that Robinson is expected to sign to a contract already agreed to with Los Angeles Lakers by Thursday.
Former Jayhawk Robinson is now set to play with his sixth team in five years if he makes the Lakers squad. The Lakers stood at 19 players so they were allowed to sign one more to their training camp roster and it appears Robinson will take that spot.
Robinson is a former 5th overall pick and whether coaches have wanted to admit it or not he has been underutilized. His lack of minutes have hurt his development, so it’s possible the Lakers will be a good spot for them as they are trying to rebuild in the post-Kobe Bryant era. He’s only 25-years-old and still has plenty of time to turnaround a foggy career.
Robinson, who has been known as a humble and quiet guy off the court, sounded off at the end of last season with regards to his lack of minutes. One thing he commented on is that he has had a double-double in every game in which he played 20-plus minutes. That is impressive and you can’t really blame Robinson wanting more playing time in which to develop and ultimately prove himself.
He does come to a team that has their front-court pretty crowded for the time being. The Lakers have PF Julius Randle, PF Larry Nance Jr., C Yi Jianlian, C Timofey Mozgov, PF/C Tarik Black and C Ivica Zubac. This means Robinson definitely has his work cut out for him.
