The Kansas Jayhawks hit the road for the first time in 2016 and head to Memphis, TN to invade the Liberty Bowl.
KU is 1-1 on the year after falling to Ohio last week, while Memphis is 1-0 and coming off a bye week after opening the season with a victory in Week 1.
Memphis is led by head coach Mike Norvell, who is in his first season at Memphis. This is also his first head coaching gig at the college football level. Norvell came to Graceland after a four-year stint in Arizona State as their offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach. He has also spent assistant coaching stints at Pitt, Tulsa, and Central Arkansas. Obviously, he specializes in offense and lots of it. At age 34, he is the youngest head football coach in FBS.
Last week against Ohio, Kansas only controlled the ball for 15:18 of clock time, nearly setting an NCAA record. In order to keep this one close, the Jayhawks cannot let that happen again. In addition, the Jayhawks must clean up their special teams after two muffed punts and a blocked punt last week against the Bobcats. Limit turnovers and establish the run, and Kansas can give themselves a chance.
Let’s roll.
