Norman (OK) point guard Trae Young, one of the top recruits in the class of 2017, will officially visit Kansas over the weekend of October 21-23.

The visit happens to coincide with Homecoming weekend, with the football Jayhawks hosting Oklahoma State among various other Homecoming festivities around campus.

Young is a consensus five-star talent, consensus top-five point guard, and consensus top-20 recruit (“consensus” being 247Sports, ESPN, Rivals). Most “experts” believe Kentucky is the leader in the clubhouse for Young’s talents.

The Jayhawks are also hot on the trail of several other point guards, including four-star Tremont Waters (Kentucky, Duke, UConn, Yale) and four-star Devon Dotson (Florida, NC State, Wake Forest).

The Jayhawks already have one commit for the 2017 class, four-star combo guard Marcus Garrett out of Dallas’ Skyline High.

As noted when Garrett pledged, KU will be losing seniors Frank Mason and Landen Lucas, and depending on how the 2016-17 season goes, could see Devonte Graham, Svi Mykailiuk, and Carlton Bragg all take off as well. In addition, Josh Jackson is almost assuredly a one-and-done, meaning Bill Self needs to replace three guards and three forwards.

Other targets high on Self’s wish-list appear to be, including (but not limited to) the consensus #1 overall prospect, PF/C DeAndre Ayton, PF Billy Preston, SG M.J. Walker, SF Troy Brown, SF Jarred Vanderbilt, and PF Cody Riley.
