Marcus Garrett, a 6’5" 180-pound PG from Skyline High School in Dallas, TX, pledged to KU via Twitter on Monday.

He chose the Jayhawks over interest from a variety of Big 12 schools including Baylor, Iowa State, Oklahoma State, and Texas, and several other high-majors, including UConn and Oregon.

Garrett is a 4-star guard per Rivals.com and Scout.com and is not yet rated by ESPN or 247Sports. He is a tall, athletic body in the backcourt who should thrive with regards to the way Bill Self likes to play defense. According to most recruiting services, Garrett is already a good defender and an excellent passer. Offensively, his size should allow him to easily get his shots off as he elevates over smaller defenders.

Kansas will be losing seniors Frank Mason and Landen Lucas, and depending on how the 2016-17 season goes, could see Devonte Graham, Svi Mykailiuk, and Carlton Bragg all take off as well. In addition, Josh Jackson is almost assuredly a one-and-done. That’s three guards and three forwards if I did my math correctly.

Look for Bill Self to continue to pursue more top talent for the 2017 class, including (but not limited to) the #1 overall prospect, PF/C DeAndre Ayton, PG Trae Young, PF Billy Preston, SG Gary Trent Jr., SF Troy Brown, SF Jarred Vanderbilt, and PF Cody Riley.
