Gonzalez, as has now been well documented, carries a couple of nicknames that hint at his top skill — Speedy Gonzalez and The Streakin’ Puerto Rican. And it’s those nicknames and that skill that have the KU coaching staff dreaming up all kinds of different ways for Gonzalez to touch the ball on offense this season.
The NABC Honors Court annually “recognizes the talents and gifts that these men possess off the court and the hard work they exhibit in the classroom.”
The Big Jay Award is presented to the student-athlete that best exemplifies what it means to be a part of Kansas softball on the field, in the classroom and in the community. Brickey, a four-year starter at shortstop, earned KU softball's top honor. One of five team captains, Brickey started all 51 games and claimed KU's all-time RBI, walks and runs scored records.
