For the first time since 2009, the Jayhawks did not have a player taken anywhere in the first round of the NBA Draft as Cheick Diallo went #33 overall, or the third pick in the second round, to the LA Clippers. Shortly afterward, the Clippers traded Diallo to New Orleans.
It would be a long night for the rest of the Jayhawks who were hoping to hear their name called as Ellis, Selden, and Greene all went undrafted.
Said Bill Self (via the Topeka Capital Journal): "A lot of times a guy who gets picked 50th may end up with a franchise that already has 13 guaranteed contracts and they have no shot to make the team. These guys as free agents may end up in situations where the chances are actually increased."
Self also added (via KUAthletics.com): "I am confident I will see them on a roster. Perry had an exceptional career, as did Wayne. Both were three-year starters. If Brannen can get in the right situation, a lot of teams liked him. I do believe they are not in a bad position."
As of the time of this post none of the KU trio has signed a free-agent deal, but look for that to happen for each of these guys within the next several days.
