Kansas forward Cheick Diallo was hopeful of being taken in the mid to late first round, but fell into the second round of Thursday night's NBA Draft.
Diallo was finally selected by the LA Clippers with the 33rd overall pick. Earlier in the draft, the Pelicans selected SG Buddy Hield at #6 overall.
The Pelicans sent their #39 and #40 overall picks to the LA Clippers for the rights to Diallo.
Diallo joins a frontcourt that includes Anthony Davis and... other guys that I don't know who they are.
The Pelicans went 30-52 last year, finishing 12th in the Western Conference.
I wouldn't anticipate Diallo seeing much playing time in year 1, although he may have a pretty decent shot to crack the roster. Diallo will still need to impress during summer league and fall camp if he is to avoid the D-League. Best case scenario, Diallo can perform well enough to earn a backup PF spot, where he would have the opportunity to learn and grow.
