The Kansas Jayhawks are doing very well when it comes to football recruiting for the class of 2017 - so good that I can feel the program changing just by looking at Rivals.com. Currently, the Jayhawks are ranked seventh in the conference with seven commits. TCU is the only team with less recruits (5) that are ranked above the Jayhawks.
The Jayhawks have a leg up it terms of numbers on West Virginia (3), Kansas State (2) and Baylor (1). Baylor of course has lost a number of recruits due to the Art Briles firing that stems from the mishandling of sexual assault cases. Kansas continues to hit the Lone Star State hard, with three of the seven commits hailing from Texas.
Here is a current list of the prospect commitments for the Kansas Jayhawks:
Michael Lee, Defensive Back, New Orleans, LA, 4 STARS
Kyron Johnson, Linebacker, Arlington, TX, UNRANKED
Takulve Williams, Wide Receiver, New Orleans, LA, 2 STARS
Reggie Roberson, Wide Receiver, Dallas, TX, 3 STARS
Jay Dineen, Linebacker, Lawrence, KS, 2 STARS
Travis Jordan, Athlete, Marrero, LA, 3 STARS
Dominic Williams, Running Back, Dallas, TX, 3 STARS
As you can see, most prospects are currently from out of state. However, the fact that a little more than half of the commits are ranked a 3 star or higher is promising for David Beaty and this program.
It’s still early, but it’s a start.
