Kansas Football lands 4-star prospect verbal commit for 2017 class

After missing out on 4-star DE (and local product) Amani Bledsoe for the 2016 class a few months ago, David Beaty has his first 4-star recruit at KU in CB/ATH Mike Lee out of New Orleans, LA.

Lee, a member of the 2017 class, gave his non-binding verbal on Twitter last night.

Listed at 5-10, 162 lbs, Lee is the top-rated athlete in the state of Louisiana per Rivals and had a giant list of suitors, including Texas, Georgia, Texas A&M, Tennessee, Missouruh, Miami FL, and several Pac-12 schools.

ESPN has Lee rated at 4-stars as well, while 247Sports recruiting service has him listed as a three-star recruit. He is the third prospect that recently hired running backs coach Tony Hull, a former high school coach in the New Orleans area, has now brought to KU.

Matt Tait of the Lawrence-Journal World notes that KU hasn’t seen a lot of success out of the 4-star recruits that they have managed to sign over the past 10 years.  (Come on, Matt, that's not very good sunshine-and-rainbows reporting!)

That list includes names you know, such as Tony Pierson, Bradley McDougald, and Brandon Bourbon, but also includes names you may not recognize, like Nathan D’Cunha, Keeston Terry, and Traevohn Wrench. (How much of this can we blame on Charlie Weis?)

Anyway, after seeing two 3-star offensive linemen re-open their recruiting last week, here is what KU football’s class of 2017 commit list currently looks like:

Dominic Williams Dallas, TX RB 3*
Travis Jordan Marrero, LA ATH 3*
Jay Dineen Lawrence, KS LB 2*
Reggie Roberson Dallas, TX WR 3*
Takulve Williams New Orleans, LA WR 2*
Kyron Johnson Arlington, TX LB NR
Michael Lee New Orleans, LA DB 4*
