Junior-to-be Evan Maxwell announced his intent to transfer from Liberty back in March, and on May 13 chose Lawrence, KS, and the University of Kansas as his next destination. He also visited Baylor and Virginia Tech. In addition, Maxwell had visits scheduled to Cincinnati and Arizona but ended up cancelling those.
Maxwell was lightly recruited out of high school despite hitting 6'10" his senior year. His only D1 offers were Liberty and Monmouth. According to his bio on the Liberty Basketball website, Maxwell weighs in at 245 lbs.
Last year for the Flames, Maxwell averaged just over 21 minutes, 10.0 ppg, and 4.8 rpg while starting 30 of 32 games. He will have to sit out next season according to NCAA transfer rules. He will have two years of eligibility remaining as a redshirt junior starting in the 2017-18 season.
It should be noted that Maxwell has a younger brother, Seth, who will be a high school senior next year. Seth is already a 7-footer garnering interest from Patriot and Ivy League schools. No doubt bigger schools will be interested in checking out Seth when AAU circuit plays comes around again.
Kansas still has two available scholarships available for the 2016-17 season.
