Kansas Jayhawks baseball drops 2 of 3 to K-State

New, 13 comments

The Jayhawks will need help to get out of the Big 12 cellar at this point.

The offense struggled for most of the weekend and it showed on the scoreboard as the Jayhawks dropped two of three to their in-state rivals this past weekend in Manhattan, KS.

Scores

FRI Kansas 4, @ K-State 1

SAT @ K-State 12, Kansas 2

SUN @ K-State 8, Kansas 5

Performances of the Week

2B Colby Wright (Sun): 2/4, 2 HR, 2 R, 4 RBI, BB

SP Ben Krauth (Fri): 8.1 IP, 6 H, R, ER, 3 BB, 9 K

C Michael Tinsley is now hitting .392 on the year, still leading the conference over OU's Sheldon Neuse who is at .383.  He'll need a solid week at the plate if he is to become the first Jayhawk since 1997 to break .400.

Big 12 Standings

Texas Tech 38-13 17-4
Oklahoma State 32-17 13-8
TCU 34-14 12-9
West Virginia 31-19 11-9
Oklahoma 26-24-1 11-13
Texas 21-27 9-12
Kansas State 26-26 8-13
Baylor 22-26 8-13
Kansas 20-31-1 6-14

The Jayhawks are now firmly in last place, 1.5 games behind K-State and Baylor.  The only way Kansas has a chance at making the Big 12 conference tournament is if they sweep their final regular season series and the Wildcats OR Bears lose at least two of three this coming weekend. Even then, KU doesn't have any tiebreakers, so they may need KSU or BU to get swept.  All three teams have three conference games left on the schedule.

Up Next

Kansas has a midweek non-conference matchup on Tuesday on the road at Wichita State.  KU will then travel to Stillwater to take on Big 12 baseball power Oklahoma State in a Thu-Sat series.

Meanwhile, K-State travels to TCU while Baylor hosts Texas.

As always, you can catch KU baseball for free online at KUAthletics.com/radio.  In addition, the game against Wichita State will be broadcast on Cox Kansas.
