On Sunday, March 5, the Wichita forward was a unanimous selection All-Big 12 First Team by the league coaches. Earlier that morning he was named Big 12 Player of the Week for the sixth time in his career. Then on Monday, Ellis was named second-team All-America by USA TODAY.
For the second straight year and fifth time in his 13 years at Kansas, head coach Bill Self was voted the Associated Press Big 12 Conference Coach of the Year, announced by the AP Monday morning.
“We were just struggling. We were laboring, and I really didn’t know what direction we needed to go as far as who would be our fifth starter. To me, starting is overrated. It’s more important who finishes than who starts. We were in a situation that Landen was basically finishing the majority of the games but playing as much throughout the game,” Self said.
“It’s gonna give us the opportunity to give more snaps to the young guys, like Carter Stanley, and to see Deondre Ford and Keaton Perry,” said Beaty adding senior Montell Cozart into the mix, as well. “It’s gonna be good for us to be able to evaluate the other guys, whereas, if they were all there, it naturally divides the reps up. But we want to get (Willis) well fast because he’s a talented kid.”
Kansas kicked off its spring practice over the weekend.

“I never thought I’d be sitting in Allen Fieldhouse with people standing up clapping for me,” Niang said. “So that was really cool.”
