Yesterday, the Division I Women’s Soccer Committee selected the field for the 2016 NCAA Division I Women’s Soccer Championship. As expected, the Kansas Jayhawks (10-5-4), who finished 2nd in the Big 12 this year, were drawn as host for a first round game. The foe is a somewhat familiar one. Missouri (11-6-2), former conference foe and opening round opponent in the 2014 tournament, was drawn for a 1pm match on Sunday, November 13th at Rock Chalk Park. Missouri won that last meeting 3-1, also in Lawrence.
Should the Jayhawks advance, they will meet either the 2-seed North Carolina Tar Heels or the Liberty Flames in the second round.
The Big 12 got 6 teams into the tournament, with conference champion West Virginia (19-1-1) getting a 1 seed and playing Northern Kentucky on Saturday, November 12th. None of the other conference teams received a national seed, but TCU (12-6-2) hosts Texas A&M, Texas Tech (9-8-2) plays at Utah, Oklahoma State (9-8-3) plays at Colorado, all on the 12th. Oklahoma (13-6-2) hosts SMU on Friday, November 11th.
You can check out the whole bracket on the NCAA website.
