The Match

Tonight, Kansas Soccer will take on the North Carolina Tar Heels in a second round NCAA Tournament matchup. The Tar Heels are the 2nd seed in the region, and advanced after defeating the Liberty Flames 3-0.

The winner of this matchup will advance to play the winner of Clemson and Arkansas. Clemson is the 3rd seed in the region. This match will also be played in Chapel Hill and televised on ESPN3 on Sunday, November 20th at 12pm CST.

Last Friday, Kansas Soccer won a double-overtime thriller over the Missouri Tigers at Rock Chalk Park to advance to the second round of the NCAA Tournament. The match was fairly even throughout, with neither team able to make a mark in regulation. Kansas had 17 shots (4 on goal), had 6 corner kicks and 8 fouls. Goalie Regan Gibbs had 3 saves to keep Missouri scoreless. The Tigers had 14 shots (3 on goal), with 12 corners and 8 fouls. Lois Heuchan had the game winner for the Jayhawks in the 101st minute.

The win avenged a loss in the 2014 Tournament, when Missouri beat the Jayhawks 3-1 in the first round to advance.

Around the rest of the Big 12, TCU fell to Texas A&M 1-0, Texas Tech fell to Utah 1-0, Oklahoma State fell to Colorado 3-1, West Virginia beat Northern Kentucky 3-0 and Oklahoma beat SMU 1-0, all in the first round. Oklahoma lost to 4 seed BYU 2-1 last night in second round action, and West Virginia plays Ohio State tonight at the same time as the KU match.

For a look inside the Kansas soccer program Soccer section of the KU Athletics Website where you can find pictures and video recapping the win over Missouri. The program is also featured in Rock Chalk Weekly this week, which is a really cool feature that we don't pay enough attention to here on RCT.
