RCT Bets the Big 12: Week 12

Yet another #Fail.

NCAA Football: Texas Tech at Oklahoma State Rob Ferguson-USA TODAY Sports

Well here we go again. Another horrible week. I’m glad I don’t live anywhere near Nevada. The only game I got right last week was the Baylor. It’s time for a change in the way I wager.

Starting bank: $1500

+/- for the year: -$399

Last week’s bank: $1101

LAST WEEK

Baylor @ Oklahoma -16, WON $45

Iowa State @ Kansas, Over 56, KU Moneyline, LOST $40, LOST $40

West Virginia @ Texas -2, LOST $40

Texas Tech @ Oklahoma State -12.5, LOST $30

Week 11 Won/Loss: -$105

Last week’s bank: $1101

New bank: $996

Last week: 1-4

Overall picks: 30-42-1

Holy crap. That was brutal. I’m going back to betting against myself - you know, going the opposite of what I want to do. It kinda worked two weeks ago, so let’s give it another try.

Standard reminder that this is purely for entertainment purposes only. I am not actually betting real money on these games. But if you are, obviously don’t take my advice ever, and never bet more than you can afford to lose.

Kansas State @ Baylor

Line: Kansas State -2

O/U: 59

Moneyline: +108

Baylor appears to be falling apart, plus they lost Seth Russell for the rest of the year last week against Oklahoma with a pretty gruesome ankle injury. I have no doubt that we are seeing the end of a shameful chapter in the history of all of college football. Leave it to Bill Snyder to stick yet another nail in the coffin.

My bet: $40 Kansas State -2 $40 Baylor +2

Texas @ Kansas

Line: Texas -24

O/U: 63.5

Moneyline: +1175

It’s senior day for the Jayhawks. Charlie Strong won’t make it back to Austin if he loses to KU. Texas has a strong rushing attack. Kansas has a weak rushing defense, plus, the Jayhawks are missing several starters on defense. KU might be able to keep it respectable for a half, but they’ll wear down after halftime. I’m all in on the Longhorns.

My bet: $40 Texas -24 $40 Kansas +24 and $20 KU Moneyline

Oklahoma State @ TCU

Line: TCU -4.5

O/U: 70.5

Moneyline: +170

Um. What? TCU barely beat Kansas, got blown out by West Virginia, and is a favorite over 8-2 Oklahoma State? Ok...

My bet: $40 Oklahoma State +4.5 $40 TCU -4.5

Texas Tech @ Iowa State

Line: Texas Tech -3

O/U: 75.5

Moneyline: +150

This one has me scratching my head as well. Yeah, the game is in Ames, but what about Iowa State makes you think they’ll stop Tech’s offense? And what about Iowa State makes you think they’ll keep up in a shootout?

My bet: $40 Texas Tech -3 $40 Iowa State +3

Oklahoma @ West Virginia

Line: Oklahoma -3.5

O/U: 66.5

Moneyline: +145

Oklahoma has been favored since the beginning of the year to win the Big 12, and it could come down to this. Yeah, West Virginia had that setback in Stillwater, but is coming off a big win against Texas in Austin. The one-loss Mountaineers still control their own destiny. But Oklahoma is unbeaten for a reason. They’re the class of the conference - even if they’re down some D-linemen this week.

My bet: $40 Oklahoma -3.5 $40 West Virginia +3.5

DrCrushALot’s Picks of the Week

Each week, DrCrushALot will provide a maximum of five games that he likes.

Season record: 19-21

Last week: 3-2

Boston College @ Florida State -21, WIN

Penn State -6.5 @ Indiana, WIN

Illinois @ Wisconsin -26.5, LOSS

Vanderbilt +3.5 @ Missouri, LOSS

Iowa State @ Kansas +10, WIN

Well Doc promised he’d be at or above .500 after last week, and he didn’t quite make it, getting let down by Vandy. What’s in store for this week?

This week:

Y’all’s Jayhawks did not respond well after almost winning last time. Texas -24 is a solid betting line, and if I was playing that game, sadly I’d have to go Longhorns all the way.

But since I’m not, here are my picks:

Washington State @ Colorado -4.5. Washington State’s QB is out and I’ll take the Top-10 home team. Colorado.

Kansas State -2 @ Baylor. KSU continues the Baylor plummet from grace. K-State.

Stanford -10.5 @ California. Don’t look now, but Stanford is storming back. Give me the Cardinal.
