High school sophomore point guard Markese Jacobs of Uplift Community High School out of Chicago, IL, has verbally committed to play basketball at the University of Kansas.
Jacobs was in attendance at last night’s Late Night at the Phog. KUSports.com reported that Jacobs told the Chicago Sun-Times:
“Being able to watch Late Night, watching them practice and seeing how they are with their guards and how hard they get on them and want to make them better, that impressed me.”
“It’s all about basketball here. You can see and feel the passion.”
Jacobs picked up offers from Illinois and DePaul after Kansas offered; the Jayhawks were the first to begin recruiting the promising guard who has taken on the nickname “The Show.”
His AAU coach told Scout.com:
"His number one strength is his athleticism and number two is his toughness. His game is very similar to Sherron Collins. But he shoots the ball better at the same stage."
He is KU’s first commit for the 2019 class. He is not yet ranked by most of the major recruiting services, but I would expect that to change as they get a more firm outlook on the class of 2019 as a whole.
Here is a mixtape of highlights from Jacobs’ freshman season:
