By the time the second half began Saturday afternoon at McLane Stadium, Baylor starting quarterback Seth Russell didn’t even need to take the field. The first 30 minutes of the homecoming game provided his 11th-ranked Bears more than enough time to jettison Kansas in what inevitably turned into a 49-7 trouncing.

Former Jets defensive lineman Dennis Byrd killed in car crash -
Byrd was involved in a two-vehicle car crash on a highway north of Claremore, Oklahoma, the Oklahoma Highway Patrol told Tulsa World. Byrd had played his college football at Tulsa (which is located about 30 miles from Claremore) and is a member of the school's Hall of Fame.

The Tide scored a touchdown in all three phases of the game -- offense, defense and special teams. Alabama now has 11 non-offensive touchdowns on the season after a pick-six and punt return touchdown on Saturday.

Panthers' Cam Newton passes concussion testing, cleared to face Saints -
Cam Newton was listed as questionable Friday on the Carolina Panthers' injury report for their Week 6 game against the Saints. On Saturday afternoon, the Panthers announced that Newton, who suffered a concussion in Week 4 and sat out the team's "Monday Night Football" loss to the Buccaneers in Week 5, has been cleared to play.

Former Auburn All-SEC DE Quentin Groves dies at the age of 32 -
Groves, an All-SEC pick for the Tigers in 2006 and 2007, was a second round pick of the Jacksonville Jaguars coming out of college. According to 247Sports, Groves was in Trinidad with his family at the time of his death. The cause of death is currently unknown.
