Kansas Athletics and the KU Alumni Association will join forces to host the KU Kickoff at Corinth Square, located at 83rd & Mission Road in Prairie Village, Kansas. First-year KU football head coach David Beaty and first-year head women's basketball coach Brandon Schneider will address the crowd.
"Anybody can get through the first few practices with just helmets and shoulder pads," assistant head coach and defensive coordinator Clint Bowen said Tuesday afternoon in a media session. "When full pads come on and practice turns physical, that's when the special players stand out. The ones who embrace pain."
“Mike reached out to me and told me everything was gonna be all right and he didn't hold any grudges,” Glatczak said. “It helped. He could've been bad, but he took it the right way and it helped me out a lot. It made the days go by better.”
As the Jayhawks were going through pre-practice stuff and getting in some stretching, one of the GAs was walking around near the O-Linemen yelling one of the funniest things I've heard on a football field in a while: “The best part of breakfast ain't the bacon, it's the juice, baby!” I'm guessing that was intended to fire the team up and get the juice flowing. It definitely got the laughs going.
“If he (Clint Bowen) would’ve got the job, I would’ve came if he offered me the job. I’m assuming he would’ve offered me the job to come with him,” Beaty said, grinning. “But he’s one of my best friends and I trust him with everything.”
“'Quis has played a lot of football and it shows,” Bowen said. “He's an athletic young man, physical, a very good instinctual player. He's been a really pleasant surprise.”
Beaty will make progress and bring a more exciting brand of offense to the table, but rebuilding Kansas will take a lot of time.

“We used to train them at midnight in the summer, and the NCAA outlawed that,” he said. “You can't do that anymore, but they'll let us play after midnight, which is kind of ridiculous. … I guess we should petition the NCAA. If they're going to let us play after midnight, they should let us practice and train after midnight.”
