Stigler Garners Big 12 Athlete of the Week Honors

For the second time this season, senior Michael Stigler was tabbed as the Big 12 Track & Field Athlete of the Week the league office announced Wednesday afternoon. Stigler, who boasts the world's No. 1 and No. 4-ranked times in the 400-meter hurdles, is the second Jayhawk in Big 12 history to earn two weekly conference honors in a single season.

He points to his midseason win at the Haskell Invitational as the turning point to becoming a more aggressive runner. Instead of running in the middle of the pack and saving a push for the end, he started running in the front.

The idea of bringing in another pair of teams is particularly appealing to conference bottom-dwellers Iowa State and Kansas, who have struggled with the Big 12's round-robin scheduling format.

Big 12 will actually have 'One True Champion' with new tiebreakers -

The Big 12 will no longer recognize multiple conference champions. The tiebreaker will not only settle ties for the conference champion but could help break ties for the Big 12's Sugar Bowl representative during years when the Sugar Bowl is not a semifinal game and the Big 12 has a CFP participant.
