2015 Spring Football - Tight Ends

As we edge closer to the spring game on April 25th, let's take a look at what players remain, who has come on board, and who will coach the 2015 Jayhawk Tight Ends.

John Rieger-USA TODAY Sports

The new look Jayhawks began spring practice on March 24th and the spring game is scheduled for April 25th. Today we will check out the new tight end coach and see who we have currently on the roster.

As noted in the Special Teams review, Gary Hyman was brought in this year to be the Jayhawk’s Special Teams Coordinator/Tight Ends Coach. Hyman was a receiver in college (Humboldt State ’94-’96) and coached WRs, QBs and RBs over 9 seasons at Delta College before becoming the Assistant Strength and Conditioning Coach for USC in 2009.  He was a GA at UTEP in ’10-’11, and held several other positions before making his way to Texas A&M in 2014.

The 2015 Jayhawks are paper thin at tight end. The roster includes a UF transfer who played six games as a freshman in 2012, a transfer from Coffeyville CC, a QB convert, and a guy who knows a lot of football people. Ben Johnson (So.) is the only returning TE who saw D-I playing time in 2014, playing in 12 games last season (5 at TE) and hauling in 8 receptions for 80 yards.  There is a little intrigue surrounding UF transfer Kent Taylor (Jr.). The former 4-star recruit (and nations top TE) did not make it onto the field in 2013 and abandoned Muschamp’s ship shortly after. He needs to add weight (12-15 lbs minimum) to avoid being the liability that UF coaches saw him as.

Here is the current* TE roster:
